Judging

Judge Selection

The Georgie Awards® have a structured and professionally adjudicated judging process.

The judging panel comprises industry professionals from outside of B.C. They are selected based on their specific area of expertise. Every year, the Georgie Awards® seeks judges who excel in their field. Potential judges are selected by their respective Home Builders’ Associations in Canada and the United States. Resumes and biographies are submitted to the Georgie Awards® and are reviewed to ensure judges match the high level of expertise required to adjudicate the entries.

Over a three-day span, judges from across Canada and the United States gather in Vancouver to judge the submissions. Results are audited by Baker Tilly, whose representatives are present during the three-day judging process. In the end, up to five finalists are selected for each category and one of those finalists is deemed the Georgie Awards® winner. Judges for the Georgie Awards® will be kept confidential.

Winners Selection

Project entries are judged by project descriptions, digital images and supporting documentation. The judges score each project entry following the category criteria from the Call for Entries on-line entry form. Points for each criterion range from one to six depending on the judges’ discretion on how each project entry successfully meets the category criteria.

The Grand Georgie Awards® are determined by the average of points from the top three projects listed in previous categories as well as a review of all materials by the judging panel. Results will be based on 50 percent from the average of the top three (3) projects, and 50 percent will come from the entrant’s written submission.

The Customer Satisfaction Award is adjudicated by Avid® Ratings Canada that polls homeowners and renovation clients and tabulates results based on surveys. The participants with the highest Avid® Index scores win the Georgie Award for the relevant Customer Satisfaction category, provided their Avid® Index score meets or exceeds the 75th-percentile threshold of Avid Index scores from Avid’s national database for Canada.

Builders who use Avid’s services also have access to a comprehensive, real-time, online reporting system that displays the results from their customers’ surveys. In 2010, Canadian Home Builders’ Association of BC partnered with Avid® Ratings to create the Customer Satisfaction Georgie Awards®. Builders choosing to enter this category are required to submit a list of all completed homes/projects that they have completed during the required time frame as set out by the Customer Satisfaction Georgie Awards® criteria.

In each category, up to five project entries with the highest scores will be deemed the Georgie Awards® Finalists for that category. Of these finalists, the one with the highest score will win the Georgie Award.
